Users can now create mail merge on Gmail and personalize email from Google Sheet integration automatically
Are you looking for ways to send personalized email communications such as campaigns, newsletters and announcements with custom fields inserted into mail merge messages to a large audience? Instead of manually adding the recipients in Gmail, would you like to directly link Google Sheets to your mail and it refers to the recipients directly from the spreadsheet? If so, Google just launched the latest update; Google Sheets can support mail merge in Gmail now.

Last year, Google announced the features beneficial to sending personalized individual emails to many recipients with “multi-send for Gmail”, and “the mail merge tags” to simplify the process of sending mass email to individual recipients like @firstname, @lastname, @email. Now users are able to enjoy the latest feature Google Sheets integration with Gmail’s mail merge. It can straight away link recipients data from spreadsheets and Gmail will automatically pull a lot of details from there.

This feature fully replaces multi-send. The integration allows users to link a Google Sheet maximum to 1,500 recipients with the ability to pick any data column as the mail merge tag. The mail merge tag will appear when users start typing @ on screen. To start using, users can click the icon “Mail Merge” at the top right corner of the compose window. When users tick on “Mail Merge”, the feature “Add from a spreadsheet” becomes available.
Later on, users can prepare a Sheet containing the columns for recipients data such as name, surname, emails or company name etc. After sending email, each receiver’s data shall be substituted according to their personal data from the list individually.

*When the recipient gets an email, each recipients’ data will be automatically replaced by each individual from the Sheet list.
In addition, mail merge contains a unique unsubscribe link for each recipient. Users can’t use the Cc and Bcc options when receivers’ data are referred from spreadsheets. This update is available to Gmail on the web with the following editions; Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Standard, Education Plus and Nonprofits customers.
